Carlos the Cowboy! He was a hero during the Boston bombings... running toward the victims of the bombings trying to save and protect people. Rob and I happened to run into him after church services near Copley Square!
Conditions of Athletes Village! :(
If there were odds ever stacked up against me it was going into this Boston Marathon. I was on complete BURN OUT... both mentally and physically from running. I'm the type of person that never gives myself a break so I ended up with a severe head cold a couple of days before leaving... Are you serious? Anyway, my body has been slowly breaking down and basically I didn't think the marathon itself could get any worse because I had no expectations... all I had to do was run 26.2 and I can do that in my sleep. Well, come marathon day everything that could go wrong did. LOL! I knew it was going to be raining but wasn't quite sure how cold it was going to be. I was totally torn about wearing shorts or leggings... I wore shorts until we got down to the lobby of the hotel and asked a few girls what they were wearing. Thank my lucky stars I ran back to the room and changed into leggings. Well getting on to the buses wasn't to bad.... just rain and a little mud. That changed as soon as we were dropped at the Athletes Village. It was like a WAR zone. Where was the coffee and bagels? That is when the "holy crap its cold and windy and rainy" set in. I spent 2 hours in the Village... just wishing I could start running back to the room. When we finally started running my thoughts were okay... I got this, lets just hurry and get this over with. At first it was bad, but not anything I couldn't push through. After about mile 11 and 12 it progressively got worse. I have never even gone outside and stood in weather quite that bad. HEAVY downpour in the 30's with strong 35-45 mile per hour winds in your face.... What the hell? I was wondering what it would take for them to cancel this race??? Apparently not the weather. I started playing tricks in my head with every mile.... because just let me tell you.... the weather stayed that way the entire race. Even though my body wasn't cooperating with me, I couldn't feel my legs or feet. They were like moving tree trunks.... The thought of quitting never crossed my mind. However, after crossing the finish line I was wondering how in the hell I was going to make it back to the room LOL. I can laugh about it now but all I wanted to do in that moment was cry.... and I did. It's so funny that after running that far the last thing I wanted was water. Anyway that's a little summary about the race. It was so stinking extreme and wonderful at the same time... hardest thing I have physically done! The rest of the week was a total riot hanging out with my Roberto and Matt! We had so much FUN!
